If anyone has lost the link for RFC 821 (which appears to have happened
for a few of us), here it is:

http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc0821.txt?number=821

Start reading at approximately page 13 for the subject at hand.

Here is an example _IN THE RFC_ of a _FULLY COMPLIANT_ undeliverable
mail notification message:

      -------------------------------------------------------------

            Example Undeliverable Mail Notification Message

         S: MAIL FROM:<>
         R: 250 ok
         S: RCPT TO:<@HOSTX.ARPA:[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
         R: 250 ok
         S: DATA
R: 354 send the mail data, end with .
         S: Date: 23 Oct 81 11:22:33
         S: From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
         S: To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
         S: Subject: Mail System Problem
         S:
S: Sorry JOE, your message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] lost.
         S: HOSTZ.ARPA said this:
         S: "550 No Such User"
         S: .
         R: 250 ok

                               Example 7

      -------------------------------------------------------------

Please note that there is nothing in "mail from" but a cute little <>.

Seriously, this RFC, in addition to neat-o, accessible, and highly
readable info on empty "mail from," is all you ever wanted to know about
SMTP but were afraid to ask.

But the real question; can we expect one on SCAMP soon? ;)

Have you read RFC 821 yet? Did you pay $249 for that Microsoft call?
Cause if so, I'd call back and ask them if they've read it (after you
have of course).
