I got this error returned from a user:

Subject: Mail delivery failure
Sent >>> .
Received <<< 501 5.5.2 there is a stray LF character in the message
Could not deliver mail to this user.
***************** End of message ***************

Looking in the KB and on Technet all I found was a reference to this error
in Exchange 2000 seeming to indicate that the recipient's mailbox was over
quota. I am assuming the KB is referring to Exchange 2000's SMTP sending
this to someone? I am running Exchange 5.5 SP4. Is it safe to assume the
recipient is running Exchange 2000 or is there another answer?
I could not find anything referring to a "stray LF character" as stated in
the error message.
Looking on the web under a generic search for SMTP Error Codes I find:
501 - Syntax Error
552 - 552 Requested mail action aborted: exceeded storage allocation
552 Requested mail action aborted: exceeded storage allocation
