WINS is your problem by the sound of things. If it was set up properly in
the first place there will be static mappings in WINS which reference the
MAC address and old IP address of the box in question. Delete these entries
and It'll probably fix it. Any dynamic entries need to be tombstoned.

I even deleted the lmhost file and it still does the same thing.

Are you using host files by chance?

Subject: Simple NT 4.0 server Question?
Date: Tue, 4 Mar 2003 08:36:48 -0800

Hi,
We recently changed our IP address on our PDC and several other servers on
our corporate office. When I try to ping the new servers by their NetBios
name from a remote BDC, it times out. When it tries to ping, it is pinging
the older IP address and not the newer ones. I have checked and modified the
lmhost file and did a nbtstat -R to clear the ARP cache. Nothing helps. I am
still having the same problem. I am able to ping all the other servers. Any
ideas? Thanks everyone!
