Well I wish that were the case in most places I go. If it wasn't for
Hosts
and LMhost files I don't think have of the things would work. When I
mention
that a good DNS and WINS setup should eliminate Host files I get a real
dirty look

Better, properly deploy DNS and WINS.

Remember Host and LMhost files are used differently. Learn when and how
they are accessed.

Thanks everyone for your input. I fixed the problem. It was the host
file that was causing the problem. I had modified the lmhost file and
that wasn't enough. Thanks again for every one's help. I couldn't have
fixed it without you folks. Thanks!

Rama

I even deleted the lmhost file and it still does the same thing.

Are you using host files by chance?

Hi,
We recently changed our IP address on our PDC and several other servers
on our corporate office. When I try to ping the new servers by their
NetBios name from a remote BDC, it times out. When it tries to ping, it
is pinging the older IP address and not the newer ones. I have checked
and modified the lmhost file and did a nbtstat -R to clear the ARP
cache. Nothing helps. I am still having the same problem. I am able to
ping all the other servers. Any ideas? Thanks everyone!
