The problem with most applications which report on message traffic (not
MessageStats specifically necessarily) is that they tend to do a relatively
poor job of rolling up the data, so that in enterprise environments keeping
long term historical data (possibly at a less granular level) for trending
purposes involves additional scripting on your part. A question for the
vendor would be how much space would 12 months worth of historical data
occupy for your organization based on your estimated traffic.

Course, I work for a vendor which makes a product which does what you're
looking for along with a few other things, so please take my points with the
grain of salt they deserve.
