James, It can be / is a real pain to do this sort of this, and as you have said, there are more than outlook clients to worry about. One client I know of required users to pre-pend some text to the subject line for outgoing mail, essentially forcing the user to acknowledge that the mail being sent was not restricted information. Whilst a pain, this did work.
The external messaging gateways would look for this text at the beginning of the subject line, and if it wasn't there, would bounce the mail back. Internal messages didn't require this subject line hack, as the messages stayed entirely within the exchange environment. They also allowed different subject prefixes, which could then append different information in the footer of the message depending on the "classification" the mail was given. It certainly doesn't stop people sending inappropriate email outside the company, however it is a conscious act on behalf of the user to send this mail, hence if there is a problem, they can be beaten over the head because they sent the mail. It stops the "but it was an accident" excuse. If any email address in the reply, reply to all or just sending is going external to the company. IS this possible? Any help would be appreciated.
