Patrick, If you have not done so already, I would restart the SA on the box that is hosting the RUS. Typically this is where you will see any errors that my relate to your problem (when the RUS is initialized), but only when the SA starts (even with the default logging). Turning up the MSExchangeAL logging will (should) spit out a TON of events in the app log, so be ready to do some filtering and even change the size of you app log to a larger size (as not to miss any errors).
