Well I have now moved an existing mailbox from an Exchange 2000 backend server to the new Exchange 2003 back end server and OWA works fine for that mailbox.
The silly thing is that we had another server which was running Exchange 2000 and we ran the Exchange 2003 as an upgrade on that box without any problems. It was only when we tried a fresh install of Exchange 2003 to a new server that it would not allow us to do so until we had upgraded our front end server.
