I understand the difference between domain and exchange admin rights. I only wrote that for purposes of brevity in this post. (I should have been more specific). For clarification, I have a service account setup to start and run the Exchange services and the admin account has appropriate permissions at the three levels within Exchange admin. I have the same admin account setup on my old (and still running) Exchange 5.5 box on NT 4.0 and I can backup without a problem. (both w/Veritas and NTBackup).
Is there something with Windows 2000 that I am missing? I noticed the addition of a service in 2000, the Exchange Event Service which doesn't start with the service account that starts the other Exchange services on this server. What is that service for and why does it only start with the admin account login info? > Geez, I missed the Exchange 5.5 part, with the talk of Windows 2000. > > I recommend against using the Exchange Service Account for anything except > running the Exchange Services; it's too easy to screw things up with that. > Make an account for running backups with lower permissions. > > Ed Crowley MCSE+Internet MVP > Freelance E-Mail Philosopher > Protecting the world from PSTs and Bricked Backups!T > > -----Original Message----- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Ben Winzenz > Sent: Wednesday, August 13, 2003 10:48 AM > To: Exchange Discussions > Subject: RE: Exchange Services > > Domain admin doesn't mean snot when it comes to Exchange 5.5.
