Is it happening to all users or just one or two? We had a few users try to modify their view and ended up in the same situation you are describing. To fix we: highlight calendar, select view | current view | customize current view. Click the fields button and make sure the Start and End fields show Start and End. In our case the users in question had changed these fields to Created.
