What I find puzzling is that check box didn't really change where I was looking
up mx/dns...still via my internal servers. It only changed what was doing the
lookup from the send connector doing it to the server nic. Assuming I
understand this correctly.

So it seems there is a bug in the send connector system for look ups?

So, in case anyone wonders... the reason the box isn't checked by default is:,
if you have a domain hierarchy instead of a single domain or you use pinpoint
DNS internally, it's possible to break internal email delivery.

There is a DCR in place, submitted by the MVPs, for using the internal DNS and
if that fails use the external DNS, but it's never made it to implementation.

TYVM, that instantly fixed it.

Just go ahead and use the recommendation from Paul's blog. He's a reliable
resource. :-)

I check that box as a matter of course when I do a new installation of Exchange.

Exchange 2010 on 2008 R2, current on SP's and rollups. There is no edge server
in the mix, just one hub and two mx. Having an issue with sub domain email
addresses. [email protected] DNS is failing, then they time out.

SMTP,mail.bw.edu,-,Messages: 0 Bytes: 0 (The DNS query for
'DnsConnectorDelivery':'mail.bw.edu':'b24305cc-5873-4c34-b6fa-1d65ffcd8482'
failed with error : ErrorRetry)

First time I have ever seen this, and so far it only appears to be this one
domain but I am not certain of that yet.

Looks a lot like the below links, but I am hesitant to start changing things
for one problem I have never had before. IPV6 is currently enabled, but not
being used.

Send connector is set to use the NIC. NSLookups from the hub server.
