Having had a complete budget lockdown, (worldwide recession etc etc ) I am trying to sort out how to get my NT/Exchange setup more secure and up to date..

The server (ahem!) is currently a P133 with 256K and 1 x 9GB IDE drive.

It acts as the PDC/ File Server / Print Server and Exchange Server + AV although we're not connected permanently to our ISP and dial up once an hour...

<Stops for a while to pick William off the floor he's just fallen onto laughing/crying>

Anyway I've got the limited funds via the repairs and maintenance and have a new server with :

1GHz Athlon

1GB RAM

1 x 37.5 GB drive

2 x 37.5 GB hardware mirrored drives

Backup to tape being sourced this week.

I could make up another server of similar specs if necessary

As I am aware from reading through the archives that it's not good to have a PDC / Exchange server and to split it to two servers is best.

The only problem I can see is that I have CAL licenses for 25 users, and have 20 actual users...

I would assume that I can't run two machines on the 25 licenses as I'd need 40 CAL's (is this right?) so would need to keep it all on one machine.

The freeze in spending also means that I cant update the Exchange which is at 5.0 c/w Antigen (got that expenditure approved when the CEO got a macro virus!)

Apart from running like hell, which I don't want to do as I like the Company and the people and want to stay till the good times come back round, can I have any suggestions to get a safe system...

PS I'm thinking of using just the 2 x 37.5 as a mirrored disk and leave the remaining 37.5 as a backup to swap?
