Two thoughts come to mind with this sort of problem 1. Are you using Anti-virus software, if so does turning it off speed things up? Now you know the reason you have to decide the liveable solution. 2. Explorer in Windows 2000 by default tries to represent everything in HTML, change the folder settings (Tools, Folder Options) "Use Window classic folders" and "Open each folder in same Windows" does this make any difference?
