Ok. Not to bash any more than what has been done. But realize that E2K is far different than 5.5. It involves study. I have been watching this list for 6 months reading everything that has come across it. I have also purchased $400 worth of books on the subject of AD and E2K. I can seriously appericate how you feel. This got dropped in your lap and you do not want to deal with it.
Take a little constructive criticism. I would take any advice of this list over things I have found on the Web and in books. AS far as I am concerned many of these people provide very helpful insight when asked. And they do it as a favor and asking for how to's isn't fair to them. They provide more hints and such from the only real teacher, experience. I could give you the names of the people on this list and the NT admin list that I would trust their opinions over Microsoft. But I would leave some one out. So don't take it personally but you need to do the research and testing involved in this. Other wise, you will pay to have someone come in and fix it. Which I promise you, will cost you and your company for more in the end than taking the time to research it. Just an opinion, but it take for what's it worth. -----Original Message----- From: Nickolaos Fotopoulos [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Thursday, May 09, 2002 9:07 AM To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: RE: Migration I don't think that Ed Crowley's is the simplest. Q155216 seems to be a much simpler method (thanks to who ever sent me that), well at least from the perspective of a noob, and it covers exactly what I need to do. I have searched for weeks trying to find something like this. I might not be the safest method, and might not be the smoothest method, but when you are replacing the system that your Exchange server sits on, it is the simplest. What is being pointed out to you in a direct fashion is that you appear to be in over your head. The purpose of this list (see link at the end of each posting) is: What is the EXCHANGE List Charter? Sunbelt Software hosts this list to invite the free and open discussion of Microsoft Exchange Administration Issues. This list is intended to be a forum to discuss how to keep Exchange up & running in a production environment, and as help to pass the Exchange Certification Exams. It is *not* the function of this list to be a free consulting and training service. With all due respect, you have been given many pointers and provided links to references available on the web and at bookstores. Go avail yourself of these resources, then come back with questions that provoke a discussion of issues rather than simply asking for how-tos. I can appreciate your company's frugality; you should also appreciate that many on this list must charge for their services to make a living, and can't provide considerable free work. It is simply a reality that the project you are undertaking requires a considerable amount of knowledge and experience to succeed. We believe that you can obtain that knowledge and experience, but are reluctant to see you get that with your production environment. Please be fair to the members of the list also! This is not my career! I don't want it to be. I AM A PROGRAMMER! This company doesn't have money to hire someone that knows how to do this. I want to get this done to make my job easier, so that I can spend my time more productively writing value added services for our customers. If you don't have a useful comment then keep your trap closed. If you don't like fielding questions from noobs then unsubscribe from the list. Jeez! I looked at the Ed Crowley Server Move Method, tried to follow it, but due to my chronic case of "noob-itis" I am lost. What is the simplest method of migrating to a new server, I don't really care about down time(so long as its not longer than 6 hour). I just need a real simple method for getting Exchange moved from a old computer running NT4 to a new computer running W2K. Please, please help me....before my sanity migrates from my brain!
