I think I may have miscommunicated my stance, I'm not the BOFH by any means!
We have about 1200 users and past experience has shown me that if the users
are simply educated on the use of the cache files, how the information is
stored, etc. they're likely to complain about MIS deleting "all of their
contacts". They generally don't mind having to enter the address from
scratch one time for it to be saved again.

However, that is why I recommended the more tedious approach of using the
NK2 file viewer so that the OP could resolve the situation with little user
intervention. There may even be scripted solutions available to automate the
process...
