I think I just explained it badly. What do other companies do (if enough people tell me I'm asking for something stupid I have to listen)?
It seems the solutions people have linked to are perfect, but on one hand it seems overkill centrally adding signatures to, say, internal mail, but if you let staff manually add a signature to internal mail at some point they'll add it to external mail and a centrally managed signature will be added. You're not being stupid, just trying to have it both ways. You either have a standard and central disclaimer or you don't. You can vary things like the Display name, title based on items within AD. Your original request indicated a desire to have a standard. You can't create a signature, disseminated and assure yourself that employees are actually using said signature. If it isn't, you can apply the rule to internal mails, as well. Leave it on for a day, have everyone test to make sure it displays names, etc correctly.
