Funnily enough I was at another UK uni and they were also singing it's praises. Some points of EV they liked were that it also brings SIS not only to the archived mail but also those same attachments sitting on file servers etc.
I can't go into specifics about my customer that moved from EV, but basically they were on an old version and moving to Exchange 2010 would have had to spend a lot of money either way, and were very keen on CommVault for backups and it went from there. But as an end user, I use EV and day to day it fits what OP asked for pretty well. Once all the right add-ins are configured it works smoothly and doesn't interrupt my workflow.
