Basically, it appears to be a method for doing dynamic screen resolution
switching (obsoleted by Xrandr) in combination with mapping video memory
directly into a userspace process (obsoleted by Xv, DRM+OpenGL). I doubt
it even works on any video card made in the past 10 years; and it
definitely wouldn't work on anything using KMS.
Ok, so after reading that, I'd rather remove support for that completely. But
it'll definitely stay optional, if we keep it.
