I don't think there's anything else you can do to the content in the DATA acl, other than adding and removing headers. So the headers could be read from the sending server, modified, sent to the destination server, and only *then* the byte-level copy could start for the rest of the message? Although, thinking about this further, I guess with the current architecture, things like transport filters in the smtp transport also aren't applied for a cut-through delivery. How about DKIM?
