The original expansion can be more neatly expressed as:
${reduce {<\n 1.1.1.1\n2.2.2.2\n3.3.3.3\n4.4.4.4\n4.4.4.4\n}{}{$value${if
inlisti{$item}{<\n $value}{}{$item\n}}}}
which avoids the issue.
