We (and others, I think) use it because it allows use of SpamAssassin's report_safe option, which I don't think the built-in facility allows (correct me if I'm wrong - that's how it seemed in testing earlier in the year). This is a good option when you use an Outlook client (maybe others?) as the spam content is not straight in your preview pane.
