Remember, A lot of the crossings (all?) just scan your passport's bar code to get all the info on their screen. I have to believe that the computer will show them right away how many days, etc.

As for the stamps, you have to count the days considering the date of the entry and the date of the exit and sum them all..actually it's good that he is going back and forth so that every time he is out of the country he saves days. I really do not know what happens when the 90 days are over, but I would strongly recommend to stay out of the country postponing the expiring date while waiting May or any other different arrangement he can get.
