I have had no problems with my UK HSBC card, and have checked back in the UK and no one could locate any internal notifications of restrictions. However, my US HSBC card has been blocked because I had tried to use it in a Moscow ATM. When I checked with the bank in the US I was told that most transactions were currently being blocked in Moscow due to fraud. I asked whether it was possible to mark my account to allow transactions in Moscow I was told that this was not possible. When I suggested that the fact that I was banned from access to my money might encourage me to move my banking I was simply told "I can understand why you might feel like that sir." Most helpful.
