Yep HSBC are fairly pro-active at blocking their cards. We get it happening to us every 3-4 weeks (for the last 4yrs!). It only takes a phone call though and the flag is lifted again. We have the fraud department on speed dial now ;) In terms of using the card here I would recommend that you upgrade to their "plus" account - as that means ATM withdrawals are free. Well worth the 11 GBP/month if you use the cards regularly.
