It seems I was misunderstood. My DVD comment was not intended for you since you
already have a solution. I certainly don't need any more DVD solutions since my
BBK device works fine, so I did not expect any response from anyone. First, I
would like to say that I enjoy your weekly Friday article on understanding
everyday Russian. I look forward to reading them each week.
After re-reading my suggestion I can see that my turn-key (or turnkey)/turkey
phonetic joke could be miscontrued as an possible insult. If that is how it you
took it then I make a public apology to you "here and now". Heretofore, I will
use (joke) to make it explicit to Native English Speakers (NESs) and anyone who
is becoming more fluent in English that I am making a joke.
I train Russians to pass GMAT's 5-part test and the SAT tests to take some
spots from surprised North Americans. And I am half Canadian. I usually take
great care in my English comments whenever I write them. Since comedy is not
my "bread and butter" occupation I think I should definitely "keep my day job".
My background is highly technical and educational. I have over 25 credits in
applied mathematics. I am a trained Cisco router engineer. I taught Algebra in
Los Angeles (successfully with 17-As out of 175 student who "all" tested below
average mathematic ability). I taught computer science to college undergrads at
my university for 2 years. I worked in the computer network mangagement field
for several years with people that have multiple graduate degrees and who could
not "figure out" how to use email. My professional graduate education is
in survey research where every word's meaning is "critical" to the success of
any national consumer market survey.
Believe me, there is at least one person reading this who could possibly
benefit from my DVD comments. That is who my intended audience is. Even then,
I still don't expect to hear any response from even that person. I was just
"passing along" someone else experiences that worked for me.
Your solution works for 99.5% of Expat-list readers. The solution that I
learned from someone on the regular forum "might" help the other 0.5% (1/2 of 1
%).
Again, I apologize for any misunderstanding that you have. I learned in a
Psychology and Education class that even 2 people who are fluent in the same
mother tongue can rarely understand each other 100% of the time. Thank you for
demonstrating the validity of that theory again.
I hope that "clears the air" and I "look forward" to seeing your next article.
