Though depositors' fears are real, I think panic will lead to a collapse more than anything else
Even in this 'bad' scene, big banks are buying out troubled ones.... Lloyds in UK is perfect example. They have their act right, and they have the cash! I work for an Indian bank in Moscow. My bank faced some rough weather back in India as we were more exposed to UK & North America than any other Indian bank.... But even then, we have enough liquidity to run healthy even after giving back deposits to the panickers! Not just us, the Indian central bank came out with the same view... I think the myopic view that American banks affect entire world is not right. Countries like India have less than 5% stake in global markets, and are internally growing at 8%... and regulators there take socialist views and don't allow the financial gimmicks of sub-prime CDOs ruining the economy! My point is, the depositor should cut back the greed of high returns and look for responsible behaviour when putting his money. There is only so much the governments can do, rest is upto the guy whose neck is on the line... 2008/10/5 <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > > > First of all, I would ask: Is anyone worried about their *American* bank? > The "great ruler" of world is responsible of the current situation.
