I know that with residency you can, but highly doubt you can do this with a
visa. 

A visa is "an addition" to your passport, so changing the passport would
essentially be removing the foundation of the visa.

 

Talk to your local FMS official and ask. It is possible they can do
something for you.

Subject: Expat List Is it possible to get a new passport while maintaining
the same visa? (And how)

 

My current visa is valid for another 2 years, but the passport is in such
poor condition that it must be replaced. Does anyone have experience with
this situation? How can the passport (USA) be replaced without loosing the
visa?
