[expert] X11 libraries

I'm trying to find the libraries needed for X11.  Let me expalin my problem.

I downloaded "qT" and want to compile the tutorial.  When I do a MAKE I get an error -
ld: cannot open -lX11: No such file or direrctory.

I am assuming that I need to install the X11 classes and libraries.  Can anyone tell 
me where they are?  I thought they'd be on the CD with the Linux OS.
