I can't help you much because I'm a Linux newbie myself.

But what I did was to download the source from http://www.kernel.org
and recompiled it myself.

http://www.linuxplanet.com has a short 3-page tutorial on exactly
how to compile a new kernel. I followed it and everything seems to
run fine so far.
