Oggetto: [expert] file system errors!
Data: gioved 29 aprile 1999 15.46

I need Help, please! I am in big troubles, and with a lot of work to do!
I use (used! :-[ ) linux mandrake, kern 2.2.1 , and this is my table:
hda /win 98 4GB (bootable)
hdc1/linux swap = 32MB
hdc2/linux native= 3.5GB
hdc3/DOS partition=4GB.
Today, I was booting Linux, as usual from a zImage floppy. All of a sudden,
the screen filled with error messages,EXT2-fs error..(..) trying to access
beyond (...) wanted 88461654
and so on for a long time. After a while, a sort of booting process went on.
Logged on.
The system was unusable: lots of messges telling me the UTMP file not found
and memory problem. Rebooted, it tried to reboot just to tell me that there
were filesystem errors on /dev/hdc2 !! I was given the option to enter the
system in read only mode for maintenance.
Did it, and run fsck /dev/hdc2: a lot of clear? fix? .. Answered yes to a
number of them, but after a long time, I just ctrl-C it.
Hint: last day I discovered that Winbloze didn't recognize E: (hdc3). I do
not know what happened to it, and when it happened. I formatted it. all
(seemingly) went well. Or maybe not?...

Please help me, at least tell me how can I save the work I was doing on my
Linux system, that I use for developing and work. I have backups of most of
my work, but not of downloaded proggies and of hard-earned right system
settings...
Thanx in advance,
Marco Poponi, Italy. [EMAIL PROTECTED]
