Do we
possibly mean an X client, not a server? The X server already resides on
the Linux Box, how else does your X-windows run on your Linux box without
it. I think what you need is a client on the Window's box that can connect
to the Linux box's X-server.
I know
with the VNC package there are two parts, the VNC client which resides on the
recieving machine and the VNC server which handles the connection of the VNC
client to the X server. The VNC server gets installed on the same box as
the X-windows server.

Subject: Re: [expert] Telneting to the serverYou're right, you have to install an X server on your windows box (you can find free or sharewares on the web).
Then, just telnet on the linux server and run your application like this :
appli -display <IP-Address-of-the-windows-machine>:0 &Fred
