chap? Chap is a very seldom used protocol. If you are connecting
to an ISP, the chances are its PAP and not CHAP. You would set
the password in /etc/ppp/pap-secrets. I am not aware of any
ISP's using chap, although it is used in some corporate networks
for roaming executives etc. chap never really caught on.

I do not think this is related to PPP at all. But I will check
further when one of my kppp enabled clients is on line.
