Currently it should not matter because I am only using the 192.168.1.0 net and
not concerned with any addressed out of that net. When I dial in with PPP then I
get the appropriate default route. traceroute runs for a long time than just
dies with no route found. That at least says the switch would have to be
blocking UDP as well as ICMP. Not likely.
