What's your gateway (imported for routing)?
A few idea...
1. During ping the another machine, could you see the hub LED are flashing? If not,
Hub/Nic/Cable problem...
2. Try to choice one machine as a gateway!
3. The 192.168.1.0 is not a host, it is a class c network, it hold up
192.168.1.1-254, and 255 is the broadcast address!
