Make sure that you're looking for .Xclients, Linux is case sensitive. 
Whether it's there or not, it should say this:

#!/bin/bash
sound-properties --init-session-settings
kfm &
panel &
exec enlightenment

If this works, you should be all set.  If not, you have a problem. 
Also, you will now have to logout via Enlightenment instead of Gnome. 
If this bothers you, you'll have to edit some more files...  Let me know
how it goes.
