If you have DOS still available, see if the soundcard has to load
compatibility drivers to work in DOS. If it does, you'll probably need
to investigate using loadlin to start Linux.
Another thing you could check is http://www.opensound.com. They write
sound card drivers for Linux and have support for a wider range of cards
than supported by the Linux kernel. It's $20 to buy them, but they do
have time-limited demos you can download to see if it works for your
card.
