Hi all -
I was tickled pink when my 6.1 CD came in the mail yesterday. To
this point I've been running 6.0 which installed and booted fine.
I was not satisfied with my partitioning, so I chose to do a fresh
install w/6.1.
The install goes as I expect - until I reboot - then the system
dumps, and if I'm quick enough to catch it I see that it barfs at or just
after the loading of the PCMCIA module.
Any help appreciated - here's some system details:
Compaq Armada 1750 Laptop
64 MB RAM
6 GB HD (partitioned roughly in half, 128MB swap, small space left
for Compaq diagnostics - I will run Win2k via VMWare later)
Chips&Technologies 65555 video w/4MB
3COM based Dell PCMCIA Ethernet card (3C90x/3C59x drivers worked in
past)
Some sort of 56k modem (worked fine)
Sound is ES1869(? don't have my notes handy) based and never could
get it to work
Do I need to load with PCMCIA support even though I won't use it to
actively install? And if so, are the instructions to create the appropriate
diskette somewhere on the CD?
I've also not been able to find anyone whose gotten this particular
sound chipset to work (I've checked to LinuxLaptop site) but it's a minor
concern at this point. It's odd in that it uses 3 or 4 io's and dual DMA's.
