There seems to be some confusion as to what a GPL distribution is (and
confusion as to what the official Mandrake distribution is as well).
The so-called "GPL" single-disk distributions that you can get from Cheapbytes,
Linuxmall, etc., or from the distributors ftp site, or *not* GPL! The
fact that certain cheap CD distributors call them that does not change the
licensing.
Only programs that are licensed under the GPL are GPL. Thus, only distributions
that contain only GPL (or compatible) programs can be called GPL distributions.
To my knowledge, there is no true GPL distribution. Programs on a typical
so-called "GPL distribution" include Qt (QPL license), Netscape (not even Free
Software), XV (shareware), etc. You also have a ton of programs under the MIT,
BSD, and Artistic licenses, as well as a few under the Python, MPL and other
Free Software licenses.
