This is quite off topic, not related to Mandrake at all ...
Now to answer the question: yes, libglide2x is definitely
3dfx _only_.
Apart from this:
1. the Quake3 demo binary does _not_ reference libglide2x at all,
it only references the libMesaGL (which in turn _may_ reference
glide libraries for 3dfx accel hw support).
So, what you should find is a Mesa (or OpenGL) library with
support for your card (I know that it exists for 3dfx and Nvidia,
don't know for Matrox), and then your Quake3 should run fine.
2. the latest libraries for 3dfx support use glide3, not glide2.
You may not be interested anyhow, but it may mean that your rpm
is obsolete ...
