OK I did a run with the backups specifically checked in the
Tools/Options/General

I made a file called backuptest, saved it, exited StarOffice, started
StarOffice, opened it, changed it, saved it.

Looking in my directory under Office51 in ~/Office51/work I find the file
backuptest.sdw. In ~/Office51/backups, I find the file backuptest.bak
After changing the name to backuplook.sdw and opening it with StarOffice,
it is the unmodified version of my original backuptest file.

Yes, they do mean that, as you suggested. <Sheepish Grin> I learn so much
by trying to duplicate the difficulties of others, and by giving the wrong
answers to questions and being corrected that I think this list should
begin to offer certificates or degrees.
