I have the same sound card in my machine, and had a bit of problems myself.

I can't tell you EXACTLY what I did, (It was over 2 months ago when I did
it...)

But it required me recompiling the kernel to get it to work.

I simply went in and un-checked all the other sound cards, and compiled the
ES1371 directly into the Kernel (not as a module).


I didn't have to do any kind of ModProbe.. or sndconfig..  it just 'Worked' :)




I know that is not a fun solution, especially if you have never recompiled the
kernel..
