I to had the same problem.  However, even after editing the
/etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit file and deleting the unwanted icons from
/etc/skel/Desktop the Autostart and Templates icons still kept coming back. 
The others stayed gone.  Haven't figured out why this is occurring but when I
do I'll post the answer.
