        Check /etc/inittab, initlevel statement. Pretty simple to
        understand.

        If you're running initlevel 5 (see above), then you'll have a
        nice login window where you can choose the session type.

        Also if you have desktop switch installed, you can do it that
        way.

        Another approack is to call explicitly what window namager you
        want in ~/.xinitrc or ~/.Xclients
