I don't know where XConfigurator gets its information from for "LCD Panel", but
it seems to me to be quite badly broken. I've always had better luck setting up
X on a laptop by selecting one of the "generic" SVGA monitors, i.e. something
like "Monitor that can do 800x600 @ 60Hz".

As far as PCMCIA support is concerned, I gave away all my Redhat CD's and went
over to Mandrake after a number of abortive attempts to either upgrade to or
install RH6.1 on my laptop - the RH support team told me that I would have to
stick with 6.0, as my PCMCIA controller was not compatible with 6.1.
