You need smp modules.
Get the kernel sources and run "make xconfig" from the top
of the source tree, while in X.
Turn on support for SMP.
save and exit
"make modules && make modules_install"
rerun lilo
reboot.

I *think* that'll do it, but as usual I've probably forgotten
something vital.....
