Had it with ALL of them: KDE (1.1.1 and 1.1.2), GNOME/Enlightenment,
WindowMaker, even fvwm and little twm. So I guess it's nothing to do
with the WM or graphical environment.
Problem was with MDK 6.1 (Netscape-Comm 4.61) and now with MDK 7.0 and
NC 4.7 it's the same. Nothing has changed.
BTW, kernels 2.2.9, 2.2.13 and now 2.2.14-15mdk were(are) involved.
Like Harshal wrote, it happens mostly when (as I have no LAN) the dialup
is fuzzy.
You read "Looking up foo.bar.com..." in status line of the browser and
in xosview I see 96 to 100% CPUload and the MEM-bar going up. Then (once
in a while) NC freezes (can even kill -9 it) but the CPUload still is up
and memory gets eaten up constantly. Eventually it stops when you kill
the ld-linux.so.2, so my very sure guess is, it's NC itself causing
this, no matter what kernel or environment.
