[expert] Hardwiring an interrupt

Hi,
        I have a notebook that cannot resume from an "apm -s".  After
resuming, I get a message about every 2 seconds like :
hda: lost interrupt
        When I get back into X, I can still see the clock ticking, but
mouse cursor and keyboard are frozen.  The only way out is a cold
reboot - not good.
        Any suggestions?  Like hardwiring an interrupt?  I have tried
this with 2 different HDD, but with the same symptoms.
