anRe: [expert] Kernel configuration to support audio (mic and speaker)

Matt,
Your suggestions were very helpful.
I have previously compiled my kernel
specifying compiled sound,  Changing that to modules
and running sndconfig got me the greeting from it.
I could not hear the Midi file.  I have downloaded TIMidity++
but do not know where to install it.
Can you tell me?  Should this solve my Midi problem?
