Dennis, have you tried the following set of commands?
umount /dev/fd0
mount -t ext2 /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy
With fstab being set this way:
/mnt/floppy /mnt/floppy supermount fs=vfat,dev=/dev/fd0 0 0
I'd think that if you changed the entry in fstab so fs=ext2, you'd solve
your problem.
