I think the current problem is related.

Thanks to the help resulting from my initial cry I managed to bumble and 
stumble to a restoration of Igor.  Unfortunately, I no longer can get from 
either machine to the other via my LAN.  I'm sure that the solution will be 
a red-faced forehead slapper, but I'm at a loss for whatever it may be.

The setup is:

         10.0.0.1  Igor
         10.0.0.2  AbNormal

Symptoms:

In Win95 AbNormal tells me that it is unable to browse the network, the 
network is not assessable.  When AbNormal is running in Linux, the 
preferred OS for him, I can no longer access Igor via smbclient or smbmount 
(both of which used to work).  The error message is probably not 
smb-filesystem.

Igor can see AbNormal in MS Explorer, but when I attempt to access a 
directory I get the message:  cannot access.  The computer or share name 
cannot be found.
